In addition to the individual experts shown below, the National Stalking Training Academy has formed a strategic partnership with the National Centre for Cyberstalking Research (NCCR).

The National Centre for Cyberstalking Research is part of the University of Bedfordshire and will work with the National Stalking Training Academy to enable the findings from the most up to date, relevant and widest ranging research around cyberstalking to be delivered via its training programme to those who work to prevent stalking and help support its victims.

Please note: We are unable to provide photographs for all of our associates.  This is mainly due to the sensitive nature of frontline work that some of these experts carry out with both the victims and offenders of stalking.

Neil Addison | Neil Addison is a practicing Barrister and a former Senior Crown Prosecutor. He is the author of text books on the law relating to Harassment and since 1998 has run the web site www.harassmentlaw.co.uk. He has dealt with a number of Civil and Criminal Harassment cases and regularly lectures on the subject.  Neil is the author of "Harassment Law and Practice" published by Blackstones Press.

Neil is a former member of ACPO committee on Stalking and Harassment and helped to draft national Police Guidelines for Harassment investigations

Nazir Afzal OBE | Director, Communities for the Crown Prosecution Service. This role was specifically created for Nazir and involves bridging the gap between what the public want and what the criminal justice service does.Nazir has prosecuted some of the most high profile cases in the country and advised on many others.

He initiated ground breaking conferences and seminars that have addressed; Stalking, Crime in sport, Sexual explotation, Airport crimes, 'Honour' crimes and killings and gang crime.. The present high profile of these subjects owes a considerable amount to Nazir's tireless 'campaigning' on the issues. He leads nationally on several legal topics.

Nazir has received many accolades, in 2005, he was awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours List for his work with the CPS and involvement with local communities, 2007, he was awarded the CPS's Public Servant of the year, named Legal Personality of the Year by the Society of Asian Lawyers, the Justice Award 2007 and awarded the Daily Mirror “People's award” voted for by readers.

Recently he was awarded the Asian Woman Magazine Excellence Award and the Law Society/Bar Council Mentoring award. Nazir was also selected for the Asian Power 100 along with the Muslim Power 100 list, thereby recognised as one of the 100 most influential leading Muslims and Asians in the UK.

Alexis Bowater BAHons, MSc, FRSA | Alexis the Chief Executive of the Network for Surviving Stalking. She is an award winning broadcaster who anchored ITV Westcountry News for seven years . During her fifteen years working in the media she has had experience of stalking on 3 separate occasions. Alexis has spoken out and written about the reality of stalking. She's committed to improving services for stalking victims and to raising awareness about a crime that can leave victims terrified, isolated and feeling very lonely
Hamish Brown MBE | Hamish retired as a Detective Inspector in 2004 from the Specialist Crime Directorate at New Scotland Yard after over 30 years service with the Metropolitan Police. He had spent the vast majority of his career in the CID working in central London. He has considerable experience in dealing with rape, murder, contract killing and other serious and sensitive investigations. A specialist in the offence of stalking and harassment, he is considered the United Kingdom's acknowledged authority on the subject, expert in the interpretation, practice and application of legislation and an advisor on the formulation of UK policy.

Chris Bryden | was called to the Bar by Gray's Inn in July 2003. Chris is a tenant of the Chambers of Timothy Raggatt QC, 4 King's Bench Walk. Chris studied jurisprudence at Magdalen College, Oxford and gained an LLM from University College, London thereafter. Prior to beginning his pupillage he worked for a year in the litigation department of the Treasury Solicitor.

He undertakes advocacy and advisory work in all areas of the law, with a particular interest in employment, family, housing, PI and general common law cases. Chris, along with Michael Salter (see profile below) are co-authors of "I CAN see you: Harassment and Stalking on the Internet", published in the Journal of Information and Computer Technology Law and has a strong practical and academic interest in the legal issues surrounding harassment and stalking.

Jacqui Hames | Jacqui Hames is one of Britain's best-known real life Detectives, having presented live TV appeals on the BBC flagship show Crimewatch every month for 16 yrs. After 25 yrs she retired from the Metropolitan Police Serious Crime Directorate with a passion to promote women's safety issues. She still appears regularly on TV news and factual programmes commenting on crime issues, lectures to the Met's Crime Academy Advanced CID Course on the Media, and works as a business consultant.

Together with Fiona Bruce Jacqui wrote 'Savvy – a Modern Girls Guide to having it all without risking it all' a comprehensive and down-to-earth guide to negotiating the practical perils of the 21st Century covering all aspects of female security.

Jacqui specializes in de-mystifying law enforcement providing practical advice and guidance to individuals and groups, both in how to prevent crime and also coping should you become a victim. As a consultant to the NSS she has produced a 'Guide for Victims of Stalking and How to Report the Matter to Police'.

Paul Infield | Paul is the chairman of the Suzy Lamplugh Trust. He is a barrister, mediator and executive trainer, practising from 218 Strand, London. He is the co-author of "The Law of Harassment and Stalking" and a number of other publications, and he has broadcast and campaigned against stalking extensively over the past 13 years. With over 30 years' experience, Paul has built a substantial reputation as a barrister with excellent advocacy skills and clients across the world.



Dr David James | Consultant psychiatrist David James, is one of the world's leading experts in this field, and founder of the Fixated Threat Assesment Centre (FTAC) in the UK. David works in the field of public figure stalking. His expertise lies in the assessment and management of people who threaten or harass, using a joint medical and policing approach. He has published extensively in the specialist literature and lectures widely at home and abroad.

Bob Kennett FRSA Chartered MCIPD BA | Bob is chairman of the Safety Net Associates Group who were commissioned to complete serious case reviews for the previous Home Secretary where local investigations have not been satisfactorily conducted. The SNA group are also specialists in Domestic Homicide Reviews.

Bob is also the Academic Director for the CSP Academy where he has developed multi-agency qualifications in the field of community justice.

He was a senior detective representing ACPO, ACPOS and BTP as the national expert on how the public use digital technologies to conduct their lives and the interface with the police.  He was appointed as the UK Criminal Justice representative to a G8 committee on how international law enforcement agencies should use the internet and digital communications to assist the public in dealing with the police.

During the London Bombings he advised the cabinet Office on methods to safely remain digitally in touch with the public and on CT matters.

He is also senior investigating officer for Chaucer Forbes LLP who specialise in high profile stalking cases.

Professor Carsten Maple CITP, FBCS | Carsten is a Professor of Applicable Computing and the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research & Enterprise at the University of Bedfordshire. He has published over 120 peer reviewed papers and is the author of the UK Security Breaches report supported by the Serious Organised Crime Agency and the Police Central e-crime Unit. Carsten works with advisors of the Equality and Human Rights Commission and is the Chair of the Information Group of the Council of Professors and Heads of Computing (CPHC). He is a Fellow of the British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT and is a Chartered IT professional. Carsten also holds two Professorships in China.

Ann Moulds | Ann is the founder of ASAS (Action Scotland Against Stalking). She is a survivor of one of longest and worst stalking cases recorded in Scotland. Over a year after launching ASAS, Ann and her team have contributed to some major breakthroughs – most notably the introduction of specific anti-stalking legislation in Scotland. The efforts of ASAS to bring in the legislation have now been recognised – in the form of 2 prestigious awards - the Scottish Charities Award for 'Campaign of the Year 2010' and in November, Ann Moulds won the 'Public Campaigner of the Year' at the Scottish Politicians of the Year Awards Ceremony.

She has continued to work tirelessly to have anti stalking policies introduced into the National Health Service, the National Union of Students, Scottish Universities and Colleges and to promote stalking training and awareness within Government funded and voluntary support services to help improve services for victims. She works extensively with the police and in 2010 filmed a stalking awareness training DVD for the Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Services to be delivered to all COPF staff across Scotland.

Ann has spoken publically on national television, national newspapers, national, and Irish and European radio. She has spoken at seminars, conferences and delivers training courses on stalking, impact cause and effect to groups & organisations.

With a BSc in Psychology and a qualified Psychotherapist, Ann is able to use her own experience to help raise awareness to this pervasive crime and provide a deeper understanding of the psychological impact stalking can have on victims as well as provide an understanding of stalking behaviours and why stalkers 'do what they do'

Dr David Holmes | David is Senior Lecturer in Psychology and Director of the Forensic Research Group at the Manchester Metropolitan University. He established the Forensic Research Group at MMU under which umbrella he has produced many successful forensic conferences and has published in this area, particularly stalking.

His Specialist areas include ,Stalking, Offender Profiling, Abnormal Psychology , Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy, Psychopathy , Forensic Psychopathology, Autism , Criminology, Nonverbal Behaviour, Media Psychology, Parapsychology, Personal & Pathological Relationships, Public Interest Psychology and Lifestyle Psychology.

David has authored a number of books in this subject including "Abnormal, Clinical & Forensic Psychology", "Essence of Abnormal Psychology" and "Kleine psycopathologie 2001".  He has also delivered conference presentations and had several articles pubished by the British Psychological Society.

Jennifer Perry | Jennifer Perry is an internet safety expert and consumer advocate. She wrote the first UK Internet Safety Guide for Survivors of Domestic Violence and Stalking in 2008. In 2012, she wrote new National Guidelines "Digital Stalking: Technology Risks for Victims" on behalf of the Network for Surviving Stalking and Women's Aid.

Jennifer worked for 20 years in marketing roles for consumer technology companies first in the computer and then in the internet industry. She started using her expertise to help e-victims in 2006.

She works with a wide range of stakeholders including: government, enforcement agencies, industry groups, security and legal experts as well as support charities. This gives her access to the latest thinking on e-crime and anti-social issues facing internet users. Using this collaborative work, she translates 'tech speak' into clear, easy to use information for consumers, helping them to resolve their problems and avoid becoming an online victim.

She helps organisations to develop their online safety strategies, support and policies. She provides training on social networks, online harassment/stalking and reducing online risks.

Jennifer covers a wide range of e-crime topics: fraud, e-shopping, offensive material, social networks. She has a particular interest in online harassment and stalking. She works with domestic violence professionals to help women being cyberstalked by their ex-partners to stay safer. Jennifer was founder of E-Victims.Org a charity that helped victims of online crime. However, the charity ceased operations in September 2010.


Mike Proctor | A retired  homicide detective, B.A, University of Cal, Long Beach, secondary and community college teaching credentials. Recognized expert in stalking, and stalking investigation. Mike is consultant for OVC (Office for Victim of Crime), as well as radio, television, and print media. Mike is author of "How To Stop A Stalker", as well as other articles on stalking. 

Elle Richardson | Elle was subjected to five years of vicious cyberstalking. At its peak she was receiving up to 30 messages a day via email and various social networking sites.  The messages she received often contained explicit threats to her life.  The messages were mainly sent from a number of false or temporary accounts. Elle's ordeal finally came to an end in 2009 when she tracked down her own stalker. Since then Elle has become actively engaged in campaigning for tighter controls online.

Elle was keynote speaker at the UK's first national Stalking Conference in December 2010 and is currently advising the CPS.

Michael Salter | was called to the Bar in 1999 and is a tenant at Ely Place Chambers. He holds a first-class degree in law and went on to study the BCL at Brasenose College, Oxford. Michael specialises in all aspects of employment, commercial and general common law, with a particular interest in cases involving harassment and stalking.

Michael, along with Chris Bryden (see profile above) are co-authors of "I CAN see you: Harassment and Stalking on the Internet". He has regularly been instructed in Employment Tribunals as well as the Employment Appeal Tribunal and has a busy and varied practice both as an advocate and in advisory work. Michael has also taught evidence to undergraduates at King's College, London.

Dr Lorraine Sheridan | is a Chartered Forensic Psychologist at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, who specialises in stalking and harassment, and preoccupation with public figures. She has been researching the psychological aspects of stalking and inter-personal harassment since 1996, and has conducted the only extensive European work in this area.

Lorraine is a police accredited offender profiler and compiles psychological reports related to offenders, highlighting the risks posed by known or unknown suspects. She regularly gives case management advice to the police, security personnel, celebrities and others on stalking, harassment, violence, risk assessment, malicious communications and similar topics.

During a decade of pioneering research on the psychological aspects of stalking and interpersonal harassment, she has published four books and more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, and thus has a unique expertise in this relatively recent area of psychology and law.

Dr Emma Short CSci AFBPsS | Emma is a Chartered Psychologist at the University of Bedfordshire and is registered with the Health Professionals Council as Practitioner Psychologist in Health Psychology. Emma is recognised as an expert in cyberstalking, Emma is the project lead for an initiative called ECHO (Electronic Communication Harassment ) that is investigating harassment in online environments. She continues to speak at academic conferences and contribute to academic research in this area. She is also a coaching psychologist and works with individuals effected by bullying and harassment in the workplace.
Sarah Summers | is the sister of 24 year old Katie Boardman who was stalked and murdered by her ex-partner. Sarah is fully supportive of Network for Surviving Stalking; having assisted with our Trust Your Instinct campaign. She is passionately committed to providing training about stalking and domestic violence. She wants lessons to be learned from the tragic loss of her sister - a young mother of four.
